ClO2 gas will penetrate the porous surfaces of drywall and wood.
The one time that it may not be able to penetrate as deeply is if the wall is painted with a waterproof paint, as this would create moisture and vapor barrier, that may limit the ability of the ClO2 gas to penetrate as deeply. If this is the case, and you know there is mold behind the wall, then drilling at least two small holes would allow the gas access.
